First grade students are completing their first math unit! This unit ends with the introduction of measuring with nonstandard units of measurements. Students have been using popsicle sticks and Unifix Cubes to measure various distances and lengths. Students have even had the chance to measure their classmates using nonstandard units of measurements! These activities are very useful for students continued development of number sense, a key skill in developing confident and flexible thinking.
